- The VFW National Home for Children is the first continuous national program of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. Founded in 1925, it owes its beginnings to a young woman named Amy Ross, whose efforts in the early 1920s on behalf of veterans came to the attention of Corey Spencer, a millionaire cattleman from Jackson, Michigan. In 1924, Spencer offered the Veterans of Foreign Wars 472 acres of land near Eaton Rapids for the purpose of providing a home for the spouses and children of deceased and disabled veterans.
- The Ladies Auxiliary VFW supports a number of programs and facilities at the Home, and members all over the country donate money to further the maintenance of these buildings. That fund is called the Health & Happiness/Christmas Cheer Fund.
